Step 2: Start a Sample and Document Your Progress

Why: To ensure you remember each step of your creation process. How: Begin crocheting a sample based on your inspiration. As you work, make notes down of each step you make. This includes stitch used, stitch counts, increases, decreases, and any special techniques. Keep your notes organized and clear.

There is an amazing free Pattern designer workbook from knottypod | Instagram, Facebook | Linktree, this has helped me keep myself more organised with my notes of the pattern Im working on.

Step 3: Type Up Your Pattern

When typing up your pattern its easier to use abbreviations but make sure you have a section at the beginning of your pattern that explains what each abbreviation is.
When typing up your pattern its easier to use abbreviations but make sure you have a section at the beginning of your pattern that explains what each abbreviation is.

Why: To have a readable and shareable version of your pattern. How: Type up your handwritten notes to a digital document. Use a clear format, separating each section (e.g., body, head, limbs). i find it helpful to make a not of abbreviations that will be used and a fuller explanation of what they are. This will make writing up your pattern easier as you can use the abbreviations when typing up your pattern. Make sure your instructions are easy to follow and test the pattern yourself to catch any errors.

Step 4: Advertise for Testers

Why: To ensure your pattern is user-friendly and error-free. How: Reach out to amigurumi markers online and ask for volunteers to test your pattern. Provide them with the typed-up version and ask for feedback on:

  • how clear it was to understand.

  • how accurate the pattern was.

Following the feedback, make any necessary adjustments based on their input.

Imagine holding your very own unique amigurumi pattern! Beautifully typed and easy to follow, and tested by fellow amigurumi makers. You can now share your creation with fellow crochet enthusiasts. You could even sell your patterns, for more people to enjoy what you have created. The sense of accomplishment and joy from seeing others create your designs is just out of this world.
